Mathematics

Math materials develop memory and abstraction of concepts. Using materials helps children learn complicated concepts by physically acting them out. This allows children to build a strong foundation in math before entering school.

Our students start with numbers 1-9 and 0, then progress to teens and tens, and advance to the decimal system. They learn basic operations, counting methods, and math facts.

Sensorial Development

Young children learn by doing. They gather information, ideas, and concepts through their senses, and they use this information to understand the world around them.

We introduce children to multiple subject matters, including geometry, botany, and geography. The hands-on approach helps to develop fine motor skills and hand strength needed for writing.

Science and Social Studies

The Science and Social Studies area of our classrooms is where the curriculum comes alive. Here children explore what the world is made of, how things work, and who they are.

Social and scientific activities communicate concepts to children through their senses. The materials follow a general to specific progression and offer just enough information to children to spark curiosity to learn further concepts.

Creative Expression

These activities support the development of fine and gross motor skills and promote creativity, imagination, and self-expression.

Children explore and experiment with child-friendly art materials and methods, such as painting, drawing, clay, tracing, and mosaics. Children also practice expressive techniques in drama, dance, music, and the visual arts, working individually, in small groups, and as a classroom.

Practical Life

Practical life exercises are hands-on activities that teach specific skills — Self care, basic food preparation, and more. Children develop strong work habits, build their attention span, and access concentration and emotional regulation. Children gain coordination of their fine and gross motor skills while building independence in caring for themselves and the environment.

Social-Emotional Development

We facilitate developmentally appropriate social-emotional learning and support young children in expressing, understanding, and responding to feelings and emotions. Our teachers guide children to collaborate and build relationships, make friends, understand and respond to their feelings, set goals, build confidence and self-respect, and make effective and meaningful decisions.

Language

Our language-rich environment supports children in developing strong literacy skills, a love of reading and writing, communication skills, and the confidence to express their own creativity. Our teachers are prepared to support multilingual children and their English language development.

Outdoor Environment

Nature’s calming effect helps children who need a release of energy or a peaceful place to regulate their emotions, regular walks around our beautiful lake and parks will be a cherished memory for our children.

Killarney Kids Preschool has access to an outdoor environment that is prepared with purpose and care, providing a space for nature-based learning, exploration, creativity, fine and gross motor skills, joy, and imagination development.

Enrichment

Killarney Kids Montessori Preschool seeks to provide additional learning opportunities through local partnerships with the surrounding community that support and enrich every child’s development like nice walks by the lake, swimming at the leisure centre and attending shows at the Pump House.

Our Preschool is committed to keeping all channels of communication open by sending families regular updates and pictures of their children, holding family conferences and creating engaging family and community events to establish strong connections between the school and the home.
